I am an artist; art & photo historian; college level instructor'; and writer. College teaching include lecture classes on photo history, communications media, visual arts, humanities, art appreciation, SE Asian history including history and modern history of Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia & Thailand.

Photo history highlights: I assisted with selecting a number of photos from the LOC W.E.B. DuBois 1900 Worlds Fair “Paris Exhibition Universelle” photo exhibit to display at the DuBois Centennial Symposium held at UW-Madison. I worked with the event coordinator on this project.

Photo research includes: Frances Benjamin Johnston: Hampton Institute 1900 Worlds Fair photo exhibit; James VanDerZee NYC photos; Dorothea Lange FSA photos; Yousaf Karsh portrait series; Alexander Gardner two-volume set of Civil War photos; Hmong people’s exodus to United States; Carl Van Vechten photos.

College Instructor: Involved all areas of coursework: lecture, syllabi, exams, grades. Art Appreciation, Studio, Humanities, History of Photography.

Freelance writer: Published essays & short story featured in Antique Week; ACLU of Illinois essay titled: “Photography and Social Reform In Twentieth and Twenty-first Century America: Documenting the Plight of Children”; African American Review. I published two books of short story, notes and essay. “A Collection of short story, notes & essay”; and “avoid writing about life: notes from the red journal.” I designed the book covers for these publications using my photos — PA bridge & and a view of Lake Michigan taken from the shoreline.

Artist: I’ve worked the range of 2D and 3D media - painting, silkscreen print, clay, drawing & sculpture, found objects, small metals & lost wax cast and ceramic foundry. I experiment with materials & processes. Another tool is the computer. I use photoshop and occasionally illustrator for collage and photo projects. The ancients, flora, birds, landscape, urban life, travel, trees & architecture are the usual subjects. The collaged images you see here are my photos manipulated to the nth.

These days I’m drawing on raw canvas. I use a range of color pencils, color markers of various tips and sizes. Favorite subjects are women’s fashion: jackets, pants and T shirts. Each piece fills approximately one yard of canvas.

Travel: Paris, Tours, Saint-Malo, Rhone Valley France; Edinburg Scotland; London England; Barçelona, Bilbao, Spain; Roma, The Vatican, Florence Italy; Hong Kong.

Thank you for looking at my work!
